Features to consider Convertibles - much like the removable roof on a car many jackets feature removable arms to make short sleeve jackets or gilets, this gives your jacket a whole new useful life when it is not raining, giving you warmth and protection on chilly or windy days. Pockets - all jackets come with pockets but importantly the zip or pocket flaps should ensure that your glove and scorecard don't get wet. Cuffs - adjustable cuffs are very important, Zero Restriction's patented cuff motion ensures that they stay in the same place where ever your arms are in the swing and also prevent water from traveling up your arm. Ensuring a snug fit around your wrists so that your jacket does not ride up your arms during your swing. Zips - there are many ways to seal the zips, double layered backs, rubber seals, outer fabric stud fastened flaps or a mixture of all and they work if the zip is done up correctly. However, the more zip you have the higher the possibility of it not being done up properly and leakage occurring. Full length zips make the jacket much easier to pull on and off, especially if you have lots of layers on and you are rushing. The very popular 1/4 length zips reduces the potential for water to seep in through zips and also provides better wind and rain protection, and many 1/4 length zip jackets are cheaper too! Neck line - the higher the neck the less likely water is to get on to you through the neck. The addition of adjustable toggles around the neck also helps to ensure a snug fit. Size Adjusters - your jacket is designed to give you enough space underneath to cope with several layers of clothing, that can create excess material especially around the front, most jackets have hem and under-arm adjusters so that the excess material can be pulled in and does not get in your way when making your swing. |

Single or Multi Layers? Waterproofs jackets are designed for mainly winter use, summer use or all year round use. Summer jackets are lightweight single layered and are effectively an outer waterproof shell with no other warmth layers. Winter jackets are multi-layered, outer layers being waterproof and then one or more layers within the jacket helping to keep you warm. All year round jackets are mostly thicker single layered jackets. Light to middle weight they are generous in fitting to allow for multiple layers to be worn underneath in winter but also come with plenty of adjusters under the arms and hem for summer time when you will have just a polo underneath. This type of jacket often features removable sleeves making it much more flexible and useful. |

Fabrics Waterproof fabrics are created in many ways, the most widely known Gore-tex uses a membrane laminated to an outer performance fabric, Dintex used in Backtee waterproofs is a high performance film that stops water going in but is still highly breathable. Sunderland and Cutter & Buck both use laminated fabrics that bead water on an outer shell much like a highly waxed car would in rain. They all provide maximum waterproofness that will not let you down, more advanced fabrics such as Gore-tex and Dintex offer a much higher level of breathability and thus allow body moisture to escape and evaporate keeping you cooler and more comfortable. More advanced fabrics are also softer and quieter so you only hear a soft woosh during your swing. |

| Trousers | ||||||||||||
| Waterproof trousers other than being waterproof have to be easy to put on, most times you put them on you will be hopping about on one foot in the rain in the middle of the golf course trying not to fall over with your foot stuck in the leg. You will therefore never find a slim fitting pair of waterproof trousers!
The same guidelines for Jacket Layers and Fabrics all apply to trousers as well. |

Features to consider Waistband - elasticated waist bands are essential, you never know what you will be wearing underneath and you don't want to find in the middle of the golf course that they don't fit over what you are wearing. Knees - reinforced or flexible knees add to the durability of your trousers, consider the amount of bending down to put your tee in the ground and picking the ball out of the hole you do on the course. Hems - it is essential to have zip up hems, this will ensure that you can get your golf shoes through without too much trouble. Length - make sure they are long enough to cover the top of your shoe, nothing worse than water dripping down your legs and into your shoes!

| OK so they might not be to everyone's fashion taste but in the middle of the golf course in pouring rain your main priority is to be dry, bucket hats will not only keep your head dry but they are designed to guide the water out and away from your neck which is the one vulnerable part of the waterproof jacket. You will have the last laugh in the club house when you sit down totally dry and your golf partners have wet patches down their fronts and backs. | ![]() |
