Made from technical fabrics that are designed to stop wind and rain from penetrating through the garment and disrupting the effectiveness of the base and mid layer. Windproofs are made with a very tight weave fabric, usually polyester, that does not allow the wind to pass through it. Often coated with Teflon they are very effective in light drizzle and showers.

Waterproofs offer the same wind protection but are treated in a variety of ways that ensure that water cannot pass through them. Designed as a lightweight outer shell, waterproofs allow enough space to wear multiple thermal layers underneath when required in the winter months and they have adjuster toggles for the summer months to ensure a good fit all year round.
